Drums Are Finally Here
Well, it's about time! Almost four weeks after the order was placed, I finally have a majority of it here. There are 2 pairs of drum sticks and two cymbal stands that are backordered, but they'll be here soon enough.
I have, for the past day or so, been working increasingly harder on mastering new aspects of Reason. It's such a complex program, and really would probably go quicker if I read a manual...but, I feel if I learn how to do things first hand, I will retain the knowledge. I have figured out the rack system (meaning, the routing of sounds to the mixer and to all the processors. Not too tricky, just very time consuming. Now, I am tackling the sequencer. This bad boy is rough. There is so much you can do in Reason, and it all comes down to the sequencer and putting it all in that. I have almost completed 2 entire songs into the sequencer, meaning, they can be put down as drum tracks.
I am meeting with my Hearts Afire musicians this week. A bit nervous...Since last semester I have been thinking about what a huge responsibility the team has standing up there singing. I really think that musically, I know where we need to be. I think my focus needs to be more about educating and showing that we need to be beyond the singing and music, beyond the equipment, beyond the talent, but be only focused on the worship of God. I know, I know, it's said over and over again. But my team, they get caught on details, as I do myself sometimes. We aren't called to play music just for the sake of having instrumentation. We are there to sing praises to God. We as musicians are there to do the same.
So, I am off to begin my long day of drum assembly. I am still trying to determine how they will get to Nac by tomorrow at 3...guess I better figure that one out. Until tomorrow...no really.....tomorrow...
