Back in Action

I had my surgery last week. No big thing, just another one to put up on the board....same results. It's hard to tell right now whether its going to be better for my long term. Some things are better, some things are the same, and some are just not happening. Couple good things from it....things are brighter, I can read some larger print.....more to come I am sure of it. I will keep you all updated.

Today I went to Nac to begin working on my newest project, "Not My Son", which was written by Nicholas a week or so ago. I used my Roland to track a click, a scratch vocal and acoustic. Yesterday was dedicated to getting drums tuned and ready for this afternoon. I bought some new cymbals over the last month and a half and they proved themselves today. DRUMMERS: If any are reading (hah, people don't read this thing), go buy Zildjian K Customs! Worth every penny!

Got to Wesley at around 2p and began setting up mics. Finished setting everything up about 2:45ish and started trying to set levels. I HATE SETTING THIS JUNK UP!!!!! I got frustrated and gave up around 5ish because the way everything is configured I would have to run across the room to make adjustments. Lesson learned! I ordered my M-Audio FireWire 1814 (8 ins, 10 outs) and a copy of Pro Tools 7. I messed around with a rig that is setup in Nac at my church and it is very very easy. The Roland is going to be a great tool to use for smaller stuff, but, this Pro Tools rig should be very sweet!

So, for now, I may scrap what I have and just redo it all. I am debating whether I want to go back and try drums again, maybe just kick, snare, and 2 overheads.....only time will tell.

Met up with Paul at 6:30 and we talked for a little while. Angela got off work early and we all went and had dinner at Chili's. Ya know, Chili's chicken crispers never get old.

Well, I guess that's about it. I hope this is somewhat of a decent post. I have been getting hate mail regarding lack of post-activity.

TAGGED!

Unlike my good friend Paul James, I do not like these forward/chain mail type things. Why you ask? Plain and simple, they force me o break my lazy habits and react to something that was sent to me. Plus, most of the people I know get rather annoyed by them. BUT, since Paul tagged me, I will do it.

1. I drum on EVERYTHING (walls, tables, doors, etc...)
2. I have very odd eating habits (hate vegetables, dressings, mayo)
3. Dance with my dog (yes, I do that...I know it's really weird....DON'T JUDGE ME!)
4. Like to find unusual things to do with my fake eye.
5. Have to sleep with the TV on.

Ok, so those pretty much are lame, but, it's what was expected of me...so, the next part is where you get the pleasure of doing the same thing (posting 5 weird habits) and then passing it on to your friends that are on Blogspot/Xanga/MySpace. And the lucky few are:

1. Todd Wright
2. Jonathan Martin
3. Blake Stewart
4. Edwin Rivera
5. Daniel Rowe
6. Clay Walker

YES! I got six! Alright, now you guys do what I did and pass it on. Don't be annoyed, don't put it off, just DO IT and get it over with.

Here's a little note:
I am starting a seperate blog that will hold all my project notes for some new stuff I am working on. I am taking a huge dive into digital recording in the next few weeks, including purchasing some incredible equipment and beginning (and finishing) some projects. I will post my progress and links to where you can hear my stuff. Some will have me on drums, some percussion, some will be me just sitting back and letting others do some. It's going to rock, and want you all to be a part of it. Check it out by clicking here. Later!

3, 2, 1...ROLLING!

Recording drums is so stinkin' fun. Okay, I setup to record at about 4:30p. Instead of beginning, I wanted to lossen up a bit. I haven't played in a couple of days and haven't really practiced, so that turned into an hour or so. Tiny note...

I am using VDRUMS! Grace bought the top-of-the-line Roland module with a top of the line Hart Dynamics v-drum kit. We're rockin it electronic style. These things are so close to being real it's not funny. You can customize the type of wood the drums are to emulate. It's nuts! V-Drums have a great feature of having built-in patterns and sequences so I can play along to pre-recorded music. It is nice to practice with.

So, about 6 rolls around and Mike and Paul come to Grace. We piddle around with sound levels for church on Sunday and then end up going out to eat. Haven't recorded yet...

We meet Angela and head off to San Miguel's. Pretty good food, not the greatest, but, oh well. We drive back by Grace and I setup a click and let it record for a few minutes. I then have to go back and get levels relatively set. I hit record for the drum tracks at around 11. I did two takes, and picked the best one. It's up at my portfolio site. I am going to "pretty: that site up a bit and post a link here pretty soon. Hopefully the mix is usable and if it is, I am off to song number two. That's pretty much my day in a nutshell. Later...
